History

A Kwik history lesson

Founded more than 20 years ago by Rob de Koning.

Rob de Koning started working at a young age in a cacao factory in Zaandam, the Netherlands. This factory still exists today! Rob was a man of adventure. During his time working, Rob heard a lot about the cocoa raw materials and their sourcing. Gaining a huge intrest in cocoa sourcing, he decided to travel across Africa and explore the cacao world from its roots.

Being a young man in Africa, Rob got to experience the diverse and beautiful cultures the continent had to offer. He worked and lived all over the continent.

Rob discovered two things in the Ivory Coast, his wife, and a commodity which would change the cocoa industry forever, cocoa waste.

Rob created the first business ever in the Ivory coast, buying cocoa waste. This waste was then offered to business which repurposed and pressed the waste into beautifully sustainable cocoao butter, liqiour, and powder.

Rob created a succesfull company with two locations and over 300 employees, one in Abidjan and one in San Pedro.

Unfortunately after many prosperous years operating in the Ivory Coast, due to instability in the country, the company was forced to leave. With Rob's passion he managed to find a way to operate the business from the Netherlands.
